A painter from Hunan province, arrested in a nationwide pre-Olympic roundup of Falun Gong adherents, died the day before the opening ceremonies from injuries incurred in custody. Detained in March, an emaciated Mr. Hu Heping (胡和平) from Yueyang city died August 7, 2008 according to recent reports received by The Falun Dafa Information Center. He was 55 years old.
In Shandong province, home to the 2008 Olympics sailing competition, two Falun Gong practitioners were tortured to death before the Games. Mr. Zhong Zhenfu (钟振福) from Pingdu city died July 20, and Ms. Liu Xiumei (刘秀梅) of Zhucheng city died July 27, less than two weeks before the opening ceremony, according to reports received by the Falun Dafa Information Center.
Xiao Sumin was the 3,163rd adherent known to have died as a result of the persecution of Falun Gong in China, though it is expected that the actual number is many times higher. Ms. Xiao was from Pingdu city in Shandong province; approximately 80 km north of Qingdao, site of the 2008 Beijing Olympics sailing competition. The province is also notable for having the fourth highest death rate throughout China for Falun Gong practitioners tortured by security personnel for their spiritual beliefs.
The Falun Dafa Information Center (FDI) has learned that a 38-year-old resident of Liaoning Province died in April less than three weeks after being taken into police custody for disseminating information about Falun Gong.
The widow of a well-known musician and Falun Gong adherent who died from abuse in police custody has been arrested and is at serious risk of being sentenced to a long prison term.

Falun Gong has never taken a position on an Olympic boycott. 7. A “clean up” of districts hosting Olympic venues has included the arrest of local residents who practice Falun Gong. 8. Despite ostensibly freer regulations for foreign journalists, Falun Gong remains taboo. 9. Hundreds of thousands of Falun Gong practitioners will experience the Olympics from inside labor camps, where they are often tortured. 10. Most Chinese are unaware of any of the above because independent information about Falun Gong remains blocked inside China.
The Falun Dafa Information Center has learned of the death of Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhou Huimin, based on reports from her son and corroborated by sources from within China. Ms. Zhou passed away at Qingyang District People’s Hospital in Chengdu city, Sichuan province on March 15, 2008. She was 44 years old.
